Private Sessions: When Guided Oracular Support Is the Right Next Step
Quick definition: A private session is a contained one-on-one consultation using symbol and structured inquiry to support clarity, responsibility, and integration.
(For general context on divination as a reflective practice, see Divination (Encyclopaedia Britannica).)

When a private session helps most
Private sessions are particularly useful when:
- you’re at a major life threshold (grief, endings, new beginnings)
- a pattern repeats and you can’t see it clearly
- you need a clean container for inquiry without group dynamics
- you’re integrating intensive learning or pilgrimage
What a private session is NOT
- not medical, legal, or mental-health treatment
- not fortune-telling guarantees
- not a replacement for your agency
How ethical sessions are held
A good session includes:
- clear scope (what we can and cannot address)
- consent and opt-out options
- paced inquiry (no overwhelm)
- integration (one real-world action)
- a clear closing
For an ethical parallel, the structure of informed consent is helpful: NIH NCBI Bookshelf: Informed Consent.
How to prepare (5 minutes)
Before your session, write:
- the question you’re actually asking
- what you’re afraid to see
- what you’re willing to do if clarity arrives
After-session integration (the part most people skip)
For 7 days after a session:
- review your notes daily for 2 minutes
- complete the one action you committed to
- notice how your nervous system responds
- avoid re-reading the same question compulsively
